Innovation challenge 2014

THE $65,000 The Australian Innovation Challenge is open for entries! This is a great time for Australian brains to step up and SHINE!

Brought to you by The Australian in association with Shell, the awards are helping drive some of the nation’s best ideas to commercialisation or adoption.

Now in its fourth year, the Challenge has attracted entries from researchers in laboratories and start-up companies around the country, from people making a difference in lecture theatres, classrooms and the community, and from backyard heroes inventing in their spare time.

If you have a great idea that could help Australia grasp opportunities or steel us against future economic or environmental shocks, you should enter the $65,000 The Australian Innovation Challenge awards.

You can enter whether you're a professional scientist or engineer, an educator, an innovator in community services, a student or a creative genius inventing in your shed.

The awards have seven cash prizes. Five professional categories, each carrying a prize of $5000, cover everything from new medical devices to telescopes and innovation in education. The overall winner will receive a further $25,000.

The Backyard Innovation category is open to the public, and the winner will take out $10,000 in prize money.

This year, there is a new a Young Innovators category open to students under the age of 21. It carries a $5000 prize.
