Call for nominations for Startup Tasmania board

We're calling for nominations for our new board to be elected at the upcoming AGM. The AGM will be at 6pm, Thursday 11th of December at The Typewriter Factory Loft.

Nominations must be received by 6pm on Thursday 27th November.

Dear members & friends of Startup Tasmania,

It has been an extraordinary eleven months for our organisation since the AGM last year.

Your board made an early decision to focus this year on delivering events to inspire and support entrepreneurship in Tasmania - and deliver we have. We restarted the regular breakfast & evening drinks meetups in Hobart and Launceston, and started a new regular meetup in the North West. We brought the people behind the Muru-D startup incubator or a whirlwind tour of Tasmania, including giving our entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch to them. We held advance screenings of the documentary “Maker”, supported the entrepreneurship programs of BoFA, Festival of Voices and the TasICT Conference. We sent regular newsletters, amplified our social media usage and published (so far) a grand total of 75 blog posts all while engaging local and national media. We forged relationships with StartupAus, other startup organisations, incubators and accelerators around the country. And just over a week ago, we set the foundation for a new ‘Member profile’ section on our website.

(tl;dr: we’ve done a lot this year)

But, by far our busiest time of the whole year was three weeks in late October and early November known as Startup Spring. We worked with a number of other organisations to put on a busy calendar of events covering nearly every day of the three week period. Startup Spring culminated with our second Startup Bootcamp which attracted 25 entrepreneurs and early next month the winner will be sent to the Above All Human conference in Melbourne.

It’s now time for us to wrap up the year in the usual way - by checking our financial statements line-by-line, preparing our annual return and electing a new board and executive.

Our 2014 AGM will be at 6pm, Thursday 11th December at The Typewriter Factory Loft (3rd floor above Despard Gallery, 13-17 Castray Esplanade, Hobart). It’s open to all financial members - so if you’re not a member and would like to come along, please join: https://startuptasmania.com/join

We are seeking nominations from anyone interested in forming the 2015 Startup Tasmania board & executive. All positions are open for nomination:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Public Officer

General committee member (up to six positions)

A member may nominate for multiple positions, but cannot hold an executive and general board position concurrently, or the positions of President and Public Officer concurrently.

You must be a financial member at the time of nomination (please join: https://startuptasmania.com/join) and your nomination is in the form of an email to  before 6pm, Thursday 27th November 2014 outlining your intention accompanied with the names of two other financial members who second your nomination.

I look forward to receiving many nominations, and seeing all of you at the AGM!

Kind regards,

Casey Farrell

President, Startup Tasmania
