Meet Joel Bevin from EatWith.com & Simon Rossi from Uber in Hobart

As Governments across the globe grapple with disruptive technology redefining traditional sectors like tourism, hospitality and transport; TasICT wants to see Tasmanians embrace new technologies that will save them time and money - and in some cases earn them a living.

It is for that reason TasICT is launching its Sharing Economy Policy on 5 January in conjunction with Startup Tasmania and two of the most exciting sharing economy companies in the world...Uber and EatWith.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to higher than expected interest, there has been a late change to the venue for this event. It will now take place at the Founders' Room at Salamanca Arts Centre.

Uber - Simon Rossi

Uber is evolving the way the world moves. By seamlessly connecting people needing a lift with people willing to drive (for a price of course) through technology, Uber is making cities more accessible, opening up more possibilities for riders and more business for drivers.

From its founding in 2009 to launches in over 200 cities today, Uber's rapidly expanding global presence continues to bring people and their cities closer.

Uber's entry into Australia has not been smooth. Drivers are being fined in Victoria and arrested by vigilantes in New South Wales. In Tasmania, TasICT wants to see our government clear any possible regulatory hurdles to local people being able to work for Uber or simply use the service.

Prior to Uber, Simon was accountable for leading a high performing team of Enterprise sales and sales operations professionals across EMEA at Yammer - a start up out of San Francisco who is defining what an Enterprise Social Network is, and Yammers customers (including 80% of the Fortune 500) are re-defining what a modern working environment can be. Simon is/ has been active in the start-up communities in London, Melbourne and Silicon Valley.

In his spare time Simon loves to travel the world, snowboard and build and lead disruptive businesses.

EatWith - Joel Bevin

EatWith is a trusted global community that invites people to dine in homes around the world. Guests can connect with amazing hosts, share stories and unforgettable experiences, and enjoy delicious homemade cuisine.

The company recently announced an $8 million Series A financing round led by Greylock Partners with participation from previous investor Genesis Partners and individual angels. Studying in Tasmania and Barcelona, Joel Bevin worked for several years in the public and private sectors as economist & adviser from Tasmania to London, before returning to Barcelona to fulfil his lifelong passion for food.

Having run a successful supper club in Melbourne and being a finalist on Season 1 of Masterchef, Joel founded a cooking school and food event company, the experience ranking on TripAdvisor as #7 of ‘Things to do in Barcelona’ for a short time, just behind #6, seeing Messi play at Camp Nou.

Joel crossed paths with EatWith founder Guy Michlin during one such event and the rest is history. In January 2014, EatWith secured $8 million in Series A venture funding from Greylock Partners, investors in Airbnb and LinkedIn.

Joel pitched at Techcrunch in 2013, launched the Eatwith community in Barcelona and is now Head of EatWith Global Community in over 40 countries. He is also publishing his first cookbook in 2015 called Papalosophy.
